I just rewatched the Chicago Bulls / Michael Jordan documentary “The Last Dance” this past week.?

It got me thinking about stories.?

Every one of us has one. They’re ___ (your age) years-long stories.?

But most of us don’t care to hear most stories.?

There are too many people, each with their own story. We ain't got time for them all. So, we pick and choose which stories to care about.?

Growing up, I used to read the Philadelphia Daily Newspaper.?

Every day there was a section that listed all the newly-dead people, called the obituaries. Each obituary was 2-3 sentences.?

70 years of a person’s life. Reduced to 3 sentences in a publication that became “old” at the end of the day it was printed.?

Sure, your loved ones and past coworkers will come to your wake and pay their respects. But they’ll forget about you by the afternoon of the same day, when they’re hungry and need lunch.?

Unless.?

Unless you win.?

Then, you’re remembered.?

Then, your name lives on.?

Then, your kids will aspire to live up to what you embodied.?

Then, people who’ve never met you will be inspired by you.?

This is the life (and death) of winners.?

Everyone else is replaceable and quickly forgotten.?
