Unleashing the Power of Goal setting for a successful life.....


With the advent of 2024, the charisma surrounding goal settings is at its peak. Every time along with the celebration of new year, there comes a streak for all of us to set some lofty goals. The stress is visible owing to it as it is quite hard for many to set goals. In fact it won't be wrong to say that many of us don't even know how to set SMART goals. In this scenario, smart is not only a word but an acronym that encompasses an entire philosophy behind setting and achieving goals. It stands for:

  1. Specific, for example, I am going to study the first two chapters today.
  2. Measurable, for example, I will evaluate myself through several quizzes related to these two chapters.
  3. Achievable, for example, I am good in focusing so it should not be difficult.
  4. Relevant, for example, I want to ace my exam.
  5. Time-Bound, for example, I will finish in 05 hours and will dedicate 03 morehours to quiz myself.

SMART MODEL OF GOAL SETTING

So the first step towards setting any goal is the GOAL STATEMENT. Once you set up a goal statement, it gets easier to follow it through. It is essential to first describe our aspirations and put in down in black and white. Then after much deliberation and analyzing the smartness of the statement will you be able to take in account the second important step in setting a goal.

Setting goals is crucial to drive your life in order to get targeted results and avoid frustration. It's a time saving tactic that enables a person to focus in the right direction. It's extremely easy to fall prey to procrastination or for that matter to lose efficiency by being a victim to confusion. There is no second opinion that Clarity of purpose is quite fruitful in setting and achieving goals. But this clarity can only be obtained once the person knows the need driving him to set and achieve these goals. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is quite an effective tool in order to assess what drives you towards your goal.

Goal setting not only brings direction and purpose in you life but it also helps you question your values and belief system. The productivity pyramid is quite helpful in this regard. It starts from identifying you values and listing them down in order of priority. However, the most important step in this is that you justify the order of the values with the help of a coach. The questions will be framed in reference to your thought patterns to invoke spontaneous answers. However, you can also try to do it yourself but since your brain wave is so accustomed to the regular thinking pattern, jolting it would require someone equipped with such tools. Going back to the productivity pyramid, base your planning momentum on the basis of your values. This will promote you to think out of the box, explore new ideas and discover a mindset suitable to achieving your goal.

Unleashing the power of goal setting does not require any confounded or convoluted processes. It is a natural phenomenon that comes quite easily, for example, I will cook chicken today, I will do groceries today, I will give my pet a bath, is an example of goal setting. Now this is a good example as it clearly shows that the simpler you state your goal, the easier for you to comprehend and take action. Whereas goal statements such as, I will try to finish the book so I can have free time is an example that shows vagueness, confusion, disbelief and no motivation. Therefore, try to keep it simple and as straight as possible. Above all put one target in a goal statement not an entire monologue of your life. The easier the statement, the easier to suggest values to increase the results coming from productivity pyramid.

Be-Do-Have

The next up is to analyze yourself critically on lines of BE-DO-HAVE model in order you question the purpose that you want to fulfill whether be as simple as painting a wall or as complex as need for control. This model poses a set of questions that a Coach inquire of you in a judgement free zone where you lay bare your thoughts, ideas and values and you allow the underlying emotions to flow freely. The questions around What do you want to have that you don't have already? or What is it you want to do in order to achieve a goal allows you a clear perspective. Whereas in such an inquisitive session when these emotions are vetted by you through a medium that seems as simple as a questionnaire but let you enjoy your complex circle of existence. Once you justify Who you want to be once you achieve that goal? The clarity that follows is of immense nature.

In short, unleashing the power of goal setting is an amazing science. It's not a statement that you tell yourself in the wake of a realization call. It is empowering in truest sense. Once you understand how to align the science of goal setting with your values and belief system: the result is mazing. You will be prompted to set short term or long term goals for yourself in an interesting manner leading to a fulfilled life. The success or failure won't matter then and you will learn to enjoy the journey itself. The journey itself is the lesson that paves the way for future endeavors and once you learn to incorporate such an amazing experience in your daily work loads, the balance that entails would make your life fruitful and fun.
