Unleashing the Power of Emotional Intelligence

Unleashing the Power of Emotional Intelligence

It's that time of year where things are winding down. By the time you read this, I'll be in Buenos Aires, Argentina.?

My friends asked me, "Why are you going to Argentina?"

It's simple. I'm going because I've always wanted to go.

I only say this to you because I speak to too many people who are working their life away. I even just spoke to an airport CEO who hasn't travelled in years! The irony of that situation was not lost on me.

So my wish to you is that you get to do more of what you want for YOU after working as hard as you do for everyone else. Don't wait until it's too late to get the wakeup call.

Write to me and tell me what you're doing to celebrate the end of 2023. You already know what I'm doing...

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to navigate life’s challenges with grace and resilience, while others struggle to cope with even the smallest setbacks? The answer often lies in an aspect of human psychology called Emotional Intelligence (EQ).

Imagine having the superpower to understand and manage your own emotions, connect with others on a deeper level, and make better decisions in every aspect of your life. That’s precisely what EQ offers—a set of skills and insights that can transform not only how you navigate the ups and downs of your personal and professional life but also how you combat the looming threat of burnout.

In this fifth installment of our “Decode Your Burnout” podcast 2023 recap, we’re diving headfirst into the world of EQ . We’ll explore what it is, why it’s so crucial, and how it can be the key to unlocking a more resilient, fulfilling, and successful you.?

And, if you need to catch up on the prior four recap articles, here they are:?

As we near the end of the year, I've giving you bonus episodes of the Decode Your Burnout podcast. So this week you have double the homework.?

The first interview I did was with Valerie Cockerell,?a Disney ???veteran with 25 years of retail, product development and store management expertise. She comes on to talk about the parallels between motherhood and management.?

The second interview was with Jeff Hoffman, the brains behind the likes of Priceline, Booking.com , and the airport kiosk that helps us be more efficient in our travels.????

Listen here.

While Jeff Hoffman talks about travel, most of what he focuses on these days is giving back. So I thought it would be appropriate to share Cheryl Chong 's TEDx talk.

Spend some time focusing more on what you have than what you don't have and you'll be in good shape. Then you can spend your resources on others rather than on stuff you don't really need and make a difference in the process.

Have an amazing time in Buenos Aires! I am taking time to reflect on the year and plan for 2024 in a slow and peaceful was at home. This year has been a very one and has included a movie, a retirement, new jobs, a close family death, and 25th anniversary, and all of the normal things as well. I'm looking forward to refocusing on what matters most and enjoying some downtime with my family.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. I hope you have a wonderful time in Buenos Aires! It’s great that you’re taking some time off to do what you love. I agree that it’s important to take a break from work and do things that make us happy. As for your question, there are many ways to celebrate the end of 2023. Some people like to spend time with their loved ones, while others prefer to travel to new places. Some people like to reflect on the past year and set goals for the new year, while others like to party and have fun. I wish you a happy and healthy new year!?
