Luke's decision to pursue an apprenticeship at Seatrium ORS was fuelled by the desire to explore new opportunities for professional growth. He saw the company's trajectory of growth and recognised that an apprenticeship here would offer him the chance to develop alongside the organisation. We recently sat down with him to ask him about his experience of the Seatrium ORS apprenticeship programme.
Q: What motivated you to pursue an apprenticeship at Seatrium ORS??
A: I was in college (which I was not enjoying) for six months before I joined Seatrium ORS, so I decided that I wanted to pursue an apprenticeship. I could see with Seatrium ORS that the company was growing and with the introduction of their apprenticeship programme I knew that I could grow too, which is what interested me about the company.
?
Q: Can you share your experience of being an apprentice at Seatrium ORS so far? What have been the highlights of your apprenticeship journey??
A: My experience has been very positive, I feel like I have improved a lot of skills that could benefit me in the future, and I feel like I am ahead of a lot of people my age in terms of experience in the workplace. A highlight would be when I passed my first exam because it boosted my confidence in my abilities and set a good standard that I knew I needed to maintain.

Q: How has the mentorship and guidance you’ve received from the team at Seatrium ORS s influenced your learning and development?
A: I have found a few areas within my apprenticeship quite difficult. In these cases, I have approached my line manager for help, for example with exam style questions which I found difficult to interpret. His advice and guidance helped my understanding and propelled my learning for future topics.
?
Q: What challenges have you faced during your apprenticeship, and how did you overcome them?
A: In the beginning, I was doubting my ability and was unsure if I was up for the challenge of completing my level 3 apprenticeship. I reached out for help to my line manager and was simply told to do my best and we would review my progress later after my exams. I stuck with it, passed my exams and have kept progressing. I am now on course to complete my level 3 apprenticeship.
?
Q: In what ways do you feel your contributions as an apprentice have made an impact on Seatrium ORS and its operations?
A: I believe my contribution to the finance team freed up a lot of time for my line manager. He has been able to delegate a lot of accounts payable/receivable and financial administration tasks to me. This has helped develop a more effective way of working in the department and therefore made the processes move a lot smoother in the company.
