Unleash Your True Potential
In a recent meeting with a senior executive I had the opportunity to identify the many states that existed in relation to a particular workplace goal. My exec was tasked with performance managing a team member, and although a very experienced performer herself, she found herself procrastinating in this particular situation. I had been working as her coach for some time and not until this situation arose did I observe such a dilemma occurring for her.
I chose to use the ESI mapping tool, a tool that is 'goal driven' and defines the parts of you, or states that exist in relation to a particular goal. These states are both supportive and inhibitive and exist in the neural pathways of the brain.
We mapped just four states which were CALM, PROFESSIONAL (both supportive) NERVOUS, ANXIOUS and PROCRATINATOR (inhibitive in this instance). As it's not just enough to name the states, we then went on to profile each one in order to get a clear picture of what states were present in relation to this goal. We also discovered that the particular team member was representative of someone from her past, which was indicative for the reason her inhibitive states were present.
Once the map was drawn it was clear to her that agreements be made between the states, positive self-talk engaged in and a time and date set for the meeting. I am pleased to report that by using Calm and Professional, my executive was able to carry out the meeting with a great outcome for both herself and the team member.
Is this a situation you find yourself in? Do you ever wonder why sometimes you just can't achieve the outcomes your looking for - even though you know you have the ability?
Call me and discuss how I can help you map the many different parts of you. With awareness, clarity and a better understanding of yourself, goals can be achieved.
