Alright, let’s cut the crap. You’re in the creative world, drowning in a sea of “shoulds” and “musts,” where the pressure to churn out brilliant ideas like a busted fire hydrant is as common as a hipster in a coffee shop.
Creative work isn't about squeezing genius from your brain like the last drop of a toothpaste tube. It's about embracing the chaos of creativity, where there are no bad ideas, just untimely ones.
Forget the newbie move of slapping quick fixes on deep issues. Seasoned designers/creatives are like detectives, digging into the "whys" before the "hows."
Our new mantra? "There are no bad ideas, just priorities." It's the creative world's way of saying, "Let it all out, the good, the bad, and the wacky."
Picture this: a room full of number-crunchers, as stiff as starched shirts, looking to me for a sprinkle of creative fairy dust. I hit them with the mantra. Skepticism meets a challenge: "I want a coffee-serving gremlin." Cue the eye-rolls. But wait, isn't this just a thirst for efficiency? Swap gremlin for delivery app, and BAM, ideas flow.
This isn't about being sensible; it's about unlocking the floodgates of the absurd to find practical solutions. Set the stage with ground rules, and watch as the wildest ideas morph into solid gold.
So, stir up the brainstorm, and let those ideas scramble up the priority ladder. Who knows? That gremlin might just earn its keep.
Who knew fussing with my wife would make your brand look good. Did I mention, she’s my partner in life and business? Oops.
1 年This instantly reminded me of Washington monument story, and problem solving approach. That story alone thought me to always seek for a gremlin in the room, his shadows in the pen and paper ideas, and him design-delivering to clients. Yes, as creatives we put a piece of our soul into every design we do, and instead of seeing ourselves as experts we simply attach ourselves to it too much, and lose sight of why we are in the room in the first place. Our bad ideas are someones spark of imagination, and if we only remind ourselves that we are here for our unique approach, and expertise, no matter what others say, we could be the lights that solves the problem to the monument issue.

1 年Loved the post Eric!
Brandparenting? ?? is nurturing and supporting you as a brandbaby? so you can stand against brandbullies? and haters.
1 年Creatives get caught up in their feelings because they create from the heart. Take Eric's advice and in true ghetto country fashion say, fvck it. Even if what you meant to do looks like sh!t it can inspire you to do something that makes you say that MY sh!t with your whole chest. Unleash it, sit it on the porch with a drink and let the genius rock.
