Unleash Your Inner Confidence: How To Be More Confident At Work
Confidence is a superpower.
When you radiate confidence, your entire energy changes. People gravitate towards you, doors open to new opportunities, you build stronger relationships and you navigate challenges better.
But for some reason, confidence is the #1 problem for most people in the workplace. It holds SO many talented people back. And once upon a time ago, it held me back too.
I have good news for you, though. I believe that confidence is a skill that can be taught. I believe this, because I taught myself. EVERYONE has the potential to radiate confidence.
So here are some tips to help unleash your inner-confidence so that you can move one step closer to your career dreams.
A game-changing moment in my quest for confidence was realising that the 'impressive' people around me were all human beings, too. From the CEO of the company, to the colleagues I was competing with for a pay rise, they were all fighting their own imposter syndrome. I started putting myself on a level with everyone else and reminded myself that I AM good enough. From there, I began to see life differently. Ultimately, I gave myself permission.
2. Challenge Negative Self-Talk:
Negative self-talk can be a confidence killer. You have to become aware of your inner critic and challenge negative thoughts by replacing them with positive affirmations. Remind yourself of your accomplishments, capabilities, and the value you bring to the table. Treat yourself with kindness and compassion, just as you would a friend.
3. Celebrate Your Achievements:
Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how big or small. Take note of your accomplishments, skills, and progress along your journey. Reflecting on past successes fuels your confidence and reminds you of your capabilities.
4. Set Attainable Goals:
Setting attainable goals provides a roadmap for success and boosts confidence along the way. Break down your larger goals into smaller, manageable steps. Each milestone achieved becomes a stepping stone towards greater confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

5. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone:
I hate to say it, but it's true. Growth and confidence go hand in hand. Challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone regularly. Whether it's trying a new hobby, speaking up in a meeting, or pursuing a passion project, taking calculated risks expands your comfort zone and boosts your self-assurance.
6. Practice Self-Care:
Caring for yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally is essential for building confidence. Prioritise self-care activities that recharge your energy, such as exercise, buying a new outfit, going for a big walk in nature, or anything else that brings you joy. When you feel good, confidence naturally follows.
7. Cultivate a Supportive Circle:
This one is SO important. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you. Build a supportive circle of friends, mentors, and cheerleaders who believe in your potential. Their positive influence and encouragement will help boost your confidence during challenging times.
8. Embrace Continuous Learning:
Confidence grows when you invest in yourself and expand your knowledge and skills. Adopt a growth mindset and seek opportunities for continuous learning. Take courses, read books, attend workshops, and acquire new experiences that enhance your expertise. You are accountable for your own education.
9. Practice Body Language and Assertiveness:
Your body language plays a significant role in how others perceive you and how you perceive yourself. Stand tall, make eye contact, and practice open and confident body language. It's ok to 'fake it til you make it' here. Additionally, assertiveness is key to expressing your thoughts, needs, and boundaries. Speak up for yourself with clarity and respect, knowing that your voice matters. Check out Vanessa Van Edwards for some tips.
10. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection:
Perfection is an illusion that can hinder confidence. Embrace the concept of progress over perfection. Celebrate each step forward and learn from setbacks. Remember that confidence is built through consistent effort, learning, and growth, rather than striving for flawlessness.
Conclusion:
I gotta be honest, confidence is not a quick win. It's a constant journey of self-discovery and growth. You really have to be okay with not being perfect, take other people off that damn pedestal, work on your own body language and keep pushing yourself to take on new challenges. But I promise you, confidence will change your life. So in the end, it's really worth the effort.
