Unleash the Power of Story through Video for Employee Engagement

I believe video is the most compelling story telling medium of today and stories have always been the most compelling engagement tool. Over the past 2 years, Cambridge Engineering employees have produced and uploaded over 3300 videos. This would be no big deal if we were IBM with 386,558 employees or General Motors with 202,000 employees, but it is a HUGE deal considering Cambridge Engineering has only about 100 employees, the majority of our employees are on the manufacturing floor, and most of the videos have been created by this group of Geniuses at the Work Level.
Lean & Clean - A Video Making Machine
Every day, every Cambridge employee is given 30 minutes for Lean & Clean. They are encouraged during this time to work on Continuously Improving their work processes. To fix what bugs them about their own work spaces and to collaborate with their coworkers to solve larger problems together. This could be as simple as labeling their tool location to as complex as rearranging an entire production line for better flow. They then capture and upload a 30-60 second video of before and after the improvement. The origin of this idea came from a book called 2-Second Lean by Paul Akers (great read).
Morning Meeting - The Daily Rhythm
Every morning at 8:30, we gather for an all company meeting. One member of the Cambridge Team stands up and leads the meeting for the whole company. A key part of the meeting is to watch the improvement videos from the day before. Everyone claps and celebrates the Genius inside of each employee. It is an awesome feeling.
Why Cambridge Exists
Although Cambridge's core business is to manufacture and sell specialized energy efficient heating & ventilation solutions for the Warehouse/Distribution and the Industrial Market, our mission is to Enrich the Quality of Every Life We Touch. I hope these videos and the stories behind them enrich yours as they certainly have enriched mine.
Sincerely,
Marc - President
