Unleash the Power of Lego Serious Play: The Game-Changing Solution for Innovation, Team Building, and Corporate Training Success

HR directors often struggle to find new training and development methods to improve the practical application of knowledge by their teams. Did you know that a tool used by top companies like Google and Coca-Cola could help you solve these challenges? Lego Serious Play (LSP) is the breakthrough solution you’ve been searching for.

What is Lego Serious Play?

Lego Serious Play (LSP) is a powerful tool that was developed in the 1990s by the LEGO Group when they realized the need to innovate their business strategy to compete with video games. In collaboration with professors from IMD (Institute of Management Development) in Switzerland, LEGO developed a method using Lego bricks to simulate business challenges and problems.

In 1999, Robert Rasmussen, a learning process expert, joined the research team and developed LSP into a more systematic tool. By 2002, LSP was officially launched, becoming a method that not only helps organizations develop strategies but also encourages the participation of all team members, unlocking their full creative potential.

How is LSP Used?

LSP can be used to build strategic models, allowing teams within companies to visualize different strategic scenarios. This method creates an open communication space where people can freely share ideas and perspectives, enhancing team engagement and collaboration.

LSP is particularly effective for team building and skill development. LSP workshops help team members better understand each other, build stronger relationships, and boost collaboration. As they co-create models, individuals' unique skills and strengths are highlighted, developing leadership skills through real-world problem solving and creating models that reflect the organization’s leadership culture.

LSP is also an ideal tool for problem-solving and innovation. This method encourages creative thinking by allowing participants to "think with their hands." Building Lego models helps them visualize and analyze complex problems, leading to new and effective solutions. LSP brainstorming sessions not only clarify ideas but also provide a space to discuss and further develop them.

Additionally, LSP is a powerful tool for process evaluation and improvement. LSP sessions can be used to analyze current processes, identify areas for improvement, and create specific action plans to implement necessary changes in the organization.

Son Nguyen Thanh: great article. The strategic or systems level model was something we introduced only briefly in the training, but has a lot of depth and complexity. It is wonderful to see how you have put the training into use. The LSP Method
