Unleash Human Potential With Three Words

Unleash Human Potential With Three Words

In a society where brevity is critical to communication, we may lose our ability to unleash human potential. I'm an advocate of getting your message across in as few words as possible, because people have a short attention span and they're bombarded by noise all day. When we pick our words carefully we can accelerate people to responding to you. In the process however, we lose our humanity unless we treasure these three words.

I understand

This shows you truly see the person and are present in their humanity. Connect with the human first and then proceed with the transaction. It goes a long way in building trust and accelerating collaboration

I care

The person is important to you and you are personally invested in their success or emotional status. It's one step further in connection along the spectrum of humanity. Use this word and see them light up.

I love

Not only do you care about the person, but you've formed an emotional connection with the person or pursuit. Showing people you love their work shows not only do you care, but there is a deeper human connection and you gain respect and commitment to each other.

Using the word I understand has been used for sometime in change management and as a "tool" to show teams we are present. If overused without the spectrum of caring and love, we miss out on unleashing human potential.

In a society that has been walking on eggshells over the use of language such as "care" and "love", we fail to connect with humans the way they were meant to. The survival of society started with close clans of humans supporting each other during feast or famine. Today, society shows high rates of depression and disengagement; all because we forget that three simple words can make or break our humanity.

Next time you engage via text, email, phone or a meeting, consider a new habit of infusing the communication with I understand, I care, I love and realize untapped human potential!

Let's connect and see how much we can unleash together!
