The University of Guam Triton Athletics announced on Saturday that UOG Men's Basketball Coach Brent Tipton resigned as the Triton basketball coach due to personal issues and UOG Athletic Director Doug Palmer will begin an immediately search for his replacement.

Said Palmer: "There are things more important than sports or basketball and Brent and his family are facing some of those issues now and he needs more time to devote to those issues than basketball will allow".

Tipton has been the head coach for the Tritons since the team returned to UOG in the spring of 2016 and the team looked forward to a restocked roster for 2019-20 and begins play in the Triton Men's Basketball League on October 14th.

Tipton took the team to a 30-0 record in 2017-18 and finished 5-18 in a tough 2018-19 season.

Palmer stated: "We will start taking applications for the job immediately and hopefully can name someone by next weekend if we can".

Anyone interested in applying for the job must send:

1. Letter of Application

2. Resume

3. Three references (name, phone and email address)

To [email protected] or call 735-2862 for more information.

"We hate to lose Brent, he may be the best technical basketball coach on Guam, and hopefully once his life settles down, he can return to coaching basketball again".
