University of Groningen in global top 60
In the 2017 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the University of Groningen rose again, this year from #72 to #59. The major reason for this rise was the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for our alumnus and current staff member Ben Feringa.
In the 2017 edition a total of 18 countries is represented in the top 100. The highest representation is found in the United States with 48 universities and Europe with 35 universities. A further breakdown shows the UK with 9 and Australia with 6, followed by Switzerland with 5 and the Netherlands, Germany and Canada with each 4, Japan, France and Sweden with each 3, Denmark, China and Belgium with 2 and Finland, Norway, Russia, Israel and Singapore with each one.
This is the first time that the Netherlands has 4 universities (Utrecht, Groningen, Erasmus and Leiden) represented in the top 100 of the ARWU. On a population basis Switzerland, the Netherlands and Sweden put in the strongest performance.

7 年Proud. But Delft is placed at place number 151-200, which seems strange. On the other hand, QS places Delft at #54 and RuG at #113. Conclusion: these things are very subjective.
