The University
If there’re any beautiful places in this world, the university is second to none, because it is a place of light, of liberty and of learning.
Again I say, there’re few earthly places more beautiful than the university, not because of its high rising towers or beautiful spires, but because it is a place where those who hate ignorance may strive to know and where those who perceive truth may strive to make others see.
There is no system in the world in equilibrium as the system in the university, the freshmen bring a little in and the seniors take none away, knowledge accumulates and equilibrium is met.
The university is a wonderful opportunity to find out not just much more about the world, but much more about yourself too. The task of a university is the creation of the future, so far as rational thought and civilized modes of appreciation can affect issues.
The university’s essential characteristics, is that of being a centre of free inquiry and criticism, a thing not to be sacrificed for anything else. The new appears as a minority point of view, and hence unpopular, the function of the university is to give it a sanctuary.
Although some says life at the university despite its intellectual and inconclusive discussions at graduate and post graduate level as a whole is a bad training, because it is a place where eyes are negatively widened to a fault, where brains are limitlessly opened to a fault, where liberty is taken for licence and where freedom is often associated with condoms. These allegations might seem true because a man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car, but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole rail road. Universities brings out all abilities including inabilities.
The university is not engaged in making ideas safe for students, it is only engaged in making students safe for ideas.
The quality of a university is measured more by the kind of students it turns out than the kind it takes. Whether good or bad, fathers send their sons to universities either because they went or they didn’t. This shows how beautiful the university is.Universities makes us masters of rigour and not slaves of rigour, and with little efforts we shall rule the world.
No man should escape our universities without knowing how little he knows.
