Universities - a source of new products commercialised by firms

According to the recent findings of the Innovation Radar, 70% of high potential innovations stemming from FP7 and H2020 projects are co-developed with universities. Collaborations between universities and SMEs seem to be particularly fruitful. Most of the innovations co-developed in university-firm collaborations are new products (see figure below). Although private partnerships also are an important source of new products, they show equal interest in developing new processes, services and organizational methods.

Universities participating to the EU funded research joint-ventures report "partnership with other companies" as the main need to bring their innovations to the market. In other words, by teaming-up with private organizations, universities are seeking complementary capabilities allowing them to commercialize new technologies. These capabilities can be brought into by private organizations.

The results suggest that while supporting distinct types of organizations, one needs to pay attention to diversity of needs they have to bring their innovations to the market. On the one hand, universities require support to make the first steps to commercialize innovation in the form of start-up accelerator, incubation, partnership with other organization or legal advice. On the other hand, private firms are seeking support to expand the market for their new products, i.e. scale-up.

The Innovation Radar is a DG Connect-JRC support initiative identifying high potential innovations in EU-funded research projects and the key organizations behind them. Today, the IR provides up-to-date intelligence on the innovative output of EU-funded research projects and guidance on how to leverage their innovative output by suggesting a range of targeted actions that can assist them in fulfilling their potential in the market place.

Menno Mafait [replicating natural laws of intelligence]

Thinknowlogy is the world's only naturally intelligent knowledge technology, based on Laws of Intelligence that are naturally found in the human language. Open souce software.

While universities help to develop new products, undergraduates like me do fundamental research, or even redo a science ... Chatbots, Virtual Assistants and robots are unable to reason logically in natural language. I have a solution for the long term. I have knowledge, experience, technologies and results that no one else has. I know what autonomous reasoning is, and how to implement it in software (open source). But my solution is in direct conflict with the current scientific opinion on natural intelligence and natural language. I am using fundamental science (logic and laws of nature) instead of cognitive science (simulation of behavior): ? Autonomous reasoning requires both intelligence and language; ? Intelligence and language are natural phenomena; ? Natural phenomena obey laws of nature; ? Laws of nature (and logic) are investigated using fundamental science. Using fundamental science, I gained knowledge and experience that no one else has: ? I have defined intelligence in a natural way, as a set of natural laws: https://mafait.org/intelligence/; ? I have discovered a relationship between natural intelligence and natural language: https://mafait.org/intelligence_in_grammar/, which I am implementing in software; ? And I defy anyone to beat the simplest results of my Controlled Natural Language reasoner in a generic way (from natural language, through algorithms, to natural language): https://mafait.org/challenge/. It is open source software: https://mafait.org/download/. So, everyone is invited to join.
