Funding to roll out vaccine to fight deadly koala chlamydia
University of the Sunshine Coast researchers are taking the fight to save Australia’s koalas from the devastating effects of chlamydia to a vital next stage.
UniSC has received a grant of $750,000 from the Federal Government’s Saving Koalas Fund to support turning a research version of its koala chlamydia vaccine into a veterinary-approved product to protect the nation’s most at-risk populations.

Trial increases survival rates for mesothelioma patients
A breakthrough clinical trial has found that combining a new drug with chemotherapy treatment improved survival rates of malignant mesothelioma patients.
Co-author Professor Anna Nowak , Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) from The University of Western Australia ’s Medical School, said results of the trial showed promising breakthrough treatment for malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Weed sprayer a game-changer for farmers
Cane farmers could dramatically reduce herbicide costs and Reef run-off thanks to an innovative new crop sprayer project led by James Cook University .
Designed in partnership with JCU researchers, agricultural technology company AutoWeed and Sugar Research Australia, the machine uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and spray weeds, such as nutgrass, in a cane paddock, delivering greater efficiency than conventional blanket spraying methods.
