The latest pair of articles looking into The Future of Universities brings to the stage Catriona Jackson, the CEO of Universities Australia, the peak body representing Australia’s university sector and Ixchel Brennan, one of the co-editors and Manager in KPMG’s Policy, Programs & Evaluation team within the Management Consulting Practice.
In her article Universities 2040 Jackson, argues that universities will be an important piece of the puzzle in matters such as solving social problems and providing answers to ?the human condition“. Further, universities will prove to be an important element to the thriving startu-up scene in Australia and will be more active in blue sky research. Despite the emergence of automation and big data, universities will still be fostering the skills that cannot be easily automated and will thus retain their focal position in the knowledge constelation.
In her thought piece Imagine... Brennan envisions that the universities will be more embedded in the innovation ecosystem. The future of universities will be one where these trans/ multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral teams join forces to solve the buring social and global issues. The operational and administratives aspects would also be also simplified so as to allow for smooth and fluid functioning of such teams.
The Future of Universities Thoughtbook | Australian Edition is a compilation of 20 visions written by Australian experts detailing what universities will look like by 2040.
The 20 visions are divided into 4 thematic sections – Disrupting Education, Collision of Technology and Humanity, University Engagement and Institutional Change.
