Université de Sherbrooke research and innovation excellence

The Université de Sherbrooke (UdeS) is a French-language university located in Quebec, Canada. It welcomes to its three campuses more than 31,000 students, including 3,000 international students from 104 countries.

UdeS is a research and innovation powerhouse boasting a diverse range of research programmes that are recognised for making a significant global impact.

As of 2023, the dynamism of the Université de Sherbrooke propelled it to an unprecedented tenth place among Canada’s most research-intensive universities, as measured by research income, according to Research InfoSource.

Over the past 20 years, the Université de Sherbrooke has posted the highest percentage growth in research revenues among Canadian universities (+394.6%). UdeS continues to build on this strategic position by engaging with major international research networks.

Université de Sherbrooke research expertise

UdeS’s recognised research expertise encompasses a variety of disciplines, including quantum science, sustainable health, micro-nanotechnology, RNA biology, outdoor education, green chemistry, digital health, and integrative ecology.

Its research is driven by a strong interdisciplinary vision: By combining disciplinary strengths, UdeS researchers explore emerging scientific fields and enable promising innovations that shed new light on societal challenges. They develop new methodologies, provide multiple perspectives to analyse complex issues and find innovative ways to improve systems thinking in research.

Collaborations and partnerships

The UdeS has also developed an effective and innovative model for university-business partnerships by focusing on collaboration and knowledge sharing across all disciplines and diverse public and private partners.

UdeS’s signature Integrated Innovation Chain is a driving force for innovation in Quebec and Canada that supports organisations in artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, digital technology, and innovative manufacturing. Since 2010, it has been allocated CA$1.5B in investments, 60% of which is from private sector partners.

UdeS is dedicated to creating the next generation of researchers as an international hub for academic excellence, positioning itself as an agent of local and global change. The university’s human, intellectual, and scientific potential allows it to carry out projects that have an impact on the evolution of knowledge and teaching.
