Universal Health Coverage - explained!!

I am focussed on evidence based interventions to improve population health and address health inequalities. I also love teaching public health, research methods and R Programming
Universal Health Coverage is a truly beautiful (but largely misunderstood) idea. In a nutshell, its about providing healthcare to the population in such a way as to protect people from falling into poverty due to unexpected healthcare costs.
I'm amazed that its such a controversial and divisive topic - given the sheer volume of evidence that UHC is not only cost saving but also translates into improved health outcomes at a population level.
Anyway - here is a short (5 minute) video that explains Universal Health Coverage. Watch - Enjoy - Share (and leave your comments below).

7 年Great presentation, thank you. It's controversial because a) the word 'universal' makes some people from countries with new administrations uncomfortable as it as socialist overtones, and b) it challenges the status quo of MoHs, institutions and individuals who have made their careers and reputations around the old disease specific / medicalized models that may not favor integration, PHC or bottom up approaches. In fact, these groups often meet separately without much connection, like oil and water.

7 年This was great!!!! The key element is based on the fact that not all healthcare services are available because of cost. Stakeholders stakeholders will have to decide on the priorities. This priority should be based on need, which is defined by the stakeholders.
