The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has suggested implementing Universal Basic Income (UBI) in Bangladesh as an effective method to alleviate poverty, enhance citizen empowerment, and improve social protection systems, despite the existing fiscal limitations.
A market-based pricing mechanism that includes an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based model has been recommended by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) to lower fuel prices in Bangladesh by BDT 10-15 per litre. CPD emphasised the model’s potential to bring down consumer costs and provide better predictive power for future fuel pricing adjustments.
The business environment in Bangladesh is facing a range of critical challenges that have impeded its progress over the years. Among the most pressing issues are corruption, inefficiency in government bureaucracy, policy instability, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to financing. Inflation and foreign currency instability have further exacerbated the difficulties faced by businesses.
On 6 November 2024, the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH held the Second Social Insurance Forum (SIF) in Dhaka to advance the implementation of the National Social Insurance Scheme (NSIS) in Bangladesh. This forum, established in January 2024, provided a collaborative platform to address the pressing challenges and strategic priorities for social insurance in Bangladesh.
