Unity 6 Has Just Been Released!

Today marks a significant milestone for developers and creators around the world with the official release of Unity 6! This latest iteration of the Unity platform continues to revolutionize the way we design, develop, and deploy interactive content across multiple platforms.

What’s New in Unity 6?

  1. Enhanced Performance: Unity 6 introduces significant performance improvements that allow for smoother gameplay and faster rendering. This is a game-changer for developers looking to optimize their projects.
  2. New Graphics Features: With the addition of advanced rendering techniques and visual effects, Unity 6 empowers creators to deliver stunning visuals that captivate audiences. The upgraded High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) and Universal Render Pipeline (URP) offer more flexibility and control. The new render pipeline is a combination of both HDRP and URP and it has been merged into a single pipeline. Developers have time to move to the new system, for now the pipeline stays backward compatible.
  3. Improved Workflow Tools: The latest version streamlines the development process with intuitive tools that enhance collaboration and productivity. The new visual scripting capabilities make it easier for non-programmers to contribute to projects, expanding the possibilities for teams.
  4. Cross-Platform Development: Unity 6 continues to support a wide range of platforms, ensuring that your creations can reach audiences wherever they are. With seamless integration for AR and VR experiences, the potential for immersive storytelling is boundless.
  5. Community-Driven Features: Unity has always thrived on its vibrant community, and this release incorporates valuable feedback from developers around the globe. This collaborative spirit ensures that Unity 6 meets the diverse needs of its users.

Pricing

Unity has also stated that it won't be using "Runtime fee" last month in a blog post :

Unity is canceling the Runtime Fee, effective immediately

After extensive consultation with our games community and customers, we’ve decided to cancel the Runtime Fee.

This means there will be no Runtime Fee associated with games created with any version of Unity, including Unity 6 when it releases later this year. Unity 6 is the most stable and performant version of Unity to date, and we want everyone to be able to access it without hesitation.

Changes to subscription plans in 2025

We will continue with our seat-based subscription model. We’ll be introducing changes to our subscription plans in 2025, and, for the first time in two years, we’ll be updating subscription pricing, which we will revisit annually. These pricing updates will take effect on January 1, 2025 and apply to new and current Unity Pro and Unity Enterprise subscriptions upon purchase, renewal, or upgrade. Unity Personal will remain free.

Announced September 12, 2024

Note: All amounts listed on this page are in U.S. dollars (USD).
