This is a short piece about the #socialimpact work @DOCIAsport is undertaking in collaboration with the Rugby Football League. Wests are one of five pilot clubs establishing #Community Wellbeing Hubs as part of the sustainable #legacy of the Rugby League World Cup.

On Saturday Wests launched their hub. One of the exhibitors was Yorkshire Wildlife Trust because they have seen the potential of the 'Wildlife Walk' on the grounds created by the club. The poster promoting the walk (see pic) was designed by one of Wests 'age groupers'. Andy from the Trust escorted Cllr Tracy Dearing to the walk with her husband. Tracy is visually impaired and knew that such a feature could be beneficial to her wellbeing and that of other partially sighted members of the community. She couldn't see the grasshoppers on the walk; but she could hear them. Andy couldn't hear them; but he could see them. He found two species and showed them to Tracy's husband who'd never seen a grasshopper before. #teamwork

, Cllr Dearing had never been to Wests before, she will be back and will recommend and signpost others in the community to use the club. The concept of a Community Wellbeing Hub is about sharing the facility. Boothferry FitMums have committed to using the facility; Hull Women's Welfare see it as a safe outreach venue; the neighbourhood community police support officers see it as a place to build better community relations with the young people. All were there on Saturday. I'm very proud of Wests and the other pilot clubs they are 'uniting the movement' and #makingadifference.

Take and give care.

The well-being hubs are a fantastic initiative and this is another great example of how rugby league clubs provide more than just playing opportunities for their communities. Well done everyone involved
