Dear Friends,
In our world, challenges are big, and sometimes we don't have enough resources to face them alone. But when we join hands, we can do amazing things. As the leader of the Resource Management Unit for WFP in Malawi, I've seen how working together can really change things for the better. This newsletter is all about how teamwork and partnerships are making a big difference here in Malawi.
Working With the Government – Our Main Goal
At WFP, our biggest aim is to help the government of each country. In Malawi, this means we talk with government officials to plan together, share resources, and figure out the best ways to help people. This teamwork is really important, especially in a place like Malawi where many groups are trying to help. By working closely with the government, we make sure our efforts are focused where they're needed most.
Three Ways We're Making a Difference Together
One big step we took last year was to get our finance team to work closely with the government in local areas. This is all about making sure the help we provide reaches the people who need it most, without any waste. Our finance team has been training other groups and government teams on how to manage funds and make sure every bit of help is tracked and used correctly. They've even made a guide to help everyone stay on the same page.
Sometimes, WFP steps in to solve problems that affect not just us but all UN agencies here. For example, because it's been hard to get fuel due to money issues, we set up a fuel station for all UN vehicles. This keeps our projects running smoothly. We also started a health clinic for all UN staff, helping everyone stay healthy and able to work.

Last year, we teamed up with other UN groups to help people in the Northern region of Malawi better. We went to a camp and taught migrants about health risks in Malawi. We also worked with local clinics and councils to learn from each other and strengthen our relationships. Part of our effort is to teach government workers about keeping safe and healthy at work, too.
The Power of Working With Communities
At the heart of everything we do is our connection with local communities. Real change comes from listening to and working with the people we're here to help. Our projects work best when they're designed with the community's input, making sure they fit well with local needs and ways of life.
Looking Forward
As we move forward, the value of working together couldn't be clearer. Our journey toward ending hunger and poverty is built on teamwork. I'm inviting everyone, from government officials to you, our supporters, to be part of this important work. By joining forces, we can tackle big challenges that seem too tough to face alone.
Thank you for all the support and for being part of our team. Let's keep striving for even greater achievements together.
Warmly,
Michael Hemling
