Uniting A Global Tribe: My Journey Co-Creating StoryTribe
It was thousands of miles between Yunmie and me when we began planning StoryTribe. I was in the UK, and she was in Australia. However, we were united by our shared passion for visual storytelling, forming a partnership that would transcend both geography and time zone.
From LinkedIn to Launchpad
Our story began on LinkedIn. A simple cold message from one side of the world to another sparked an incredible journey. We found ourselves working tirelessly during early mornings and late nights, fuelled by our shared belief in StoryTribe.
We've come a long way since that first message. Our combined social media following has grown to approximately 90,000 across Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. We've managed to garner support from a global community of visual storytellers in 182 countries, and our waitlist of 40,000 eager subscribers continues to grow each day.
The StoryTribe Vision
StoryTribe is a web-app designed to democratise visual storytelling. Whether you're a business professional needing to storyboard your latest pitch, or a creative trying to visualise an idea or concept, StoryTribe is for you. The platform offers an extensive library of assets, including customisable characters, poses, emotions, speech bubbles, backgrounds, and objects. It fills a crucial gap in the market by providing a dedicated visual storytelling tool.
The Kickstarter Campaign: A Leap of Faith
Our Kickstarter campaign, launched on May 16th, has been a bold step towards making StoryTribe a reality. From the get-go, the response was electrifying, reaching 50% of our target within the first 20 hours. Now on day 2, we're gaining insights into the unique nature of this journey. The full funding path isn't a straight sprint but a fascinating marathon.
While our community's enthusiasm is evident, turning interest into actual pledges has been a learning curve. But far from being disheartened, we're taking this as an invaluable lesson. Our task isn't just to spark excitement but to inspire commitment. This understanding is guiding us as we refine our strategies and fortify our resolve.
Remember, our campaign is still in full swing. We're eager to learn, adapt, and press on in our mission of making StoryTribe a shared success story.
A Call to Action
We are aware that many people are eagerly waiting for StoryTribe's release. Trust me, no one wants to launch StoryTribe more than Yunmie and I. But it's crucial for us to remember that StoryTribe isn't just about us. It's about creating a platform that will change people's creative processes and lives. That's why we're asking for your support.
We're not asking for much. Even a pledge as little as £1.00 can make a world of difference. Our Kickstarter campaign isn't about making us rich - far from it. It's about making StoryTribe a reality and releasing it to the public. The majority of the pledges will go towards additional development help and illustration help. We're keen to support the creative community.
Towards an Inclusive Future
We also recognise the reality that a lot of people are from countries where their wages just aren't high, and the idea of paying a subscription is outside of their reach. In response to this, we're considering launching a feature halfway through the campaign that will allow supporters to pay (at a discounted price) on behalf of beta subscriptions that we can hand out to those who are less fortunate. We want StoryTribe to be a platform for all voices, far and wide, and we don't want money to be the factor stopping them.
Our journey so far has been filled with challenges and triumphs, but Yunmie and I remain steadfast in our mission. With your support, we believe that we can turn StoryTribe into a reality. Join us as we continue to redefine the realm of visual storytelling, one storyboard at a time.
