Uniting Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

As we navigate life’s challenges, there is one issue that demands our collective attention and unwavering commitment: Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Today, I stand before you not only as a former football star but also as an advocate for change—a change that begins within each of us.
The Silent Battle
Growing up in the heart of Alexandra, I witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of GBV. My mother, a resilient woman who bore the weight of abuse silently, taught me the true meaning of strength. Today, I implore you to join me in this fight and not wait for the 16th days of activism to take action.
Grasping the Depths of GBV
GBV transcends mere physical afflictions; it infiltrates the very essence of our societal framework. The wounds inflicted by emotional abuse fester deep within, haunting survivors long after the visible marks have faded. We must acknowledge that GBV isn't a remote dilemma—it's a stark reality endured by our mothers, sisters, daughters, and comrades.
Our Responsibility as Men
Men, we wield profound influence—the power to perpetuate violence or to herald change. Let us opt for the latter. It commences with introspection: scrutinizing our attitudes, convictions, and conduct. We must deconstruct toxic masculinity, confront detrimental stereotypes, and redefine the essence of strength. Authentic potency lies in kindness, empathy, and reverence.
365 Days of Diligence
GBV heeds no calendar—it strikes incessantly, heedless of the date. Our dedication must remain steadfast. Let us transcend transient campaigns and ephemeral hashtags. Every single day, we must amplify our voices, enlighten our communities, and stand in solidarity with survivors. While governmental intervention is pivotal, we, too, are stakeholders. Let resources flow towards prevention, rehabilitation, and empowerment.

Shattering the Silence
Silence serves as a breeding ground for violence. Let us break free from its shackles. If you bear witness to GBV, raise your voice. If you're a survivor, seek solace and support. If you're an ally, stand resolute. Our collective outcry can drown out the darkness. Let us be the beacon that guides others towards safety.
With Profound Gratitude
I extend heartfelt appreciation to all those who champion this noble cause. To my beloved wife, Phungi, a beacon of resilience amidst her battle with breast cancer—your strength fuels my resolve. To every survivor who summoned the courage to share their narrative—your bravery fuels our crusade. And to you, esteemed reader—thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with us.
Together, let us inscribe a new narrative—one where GBV is vanquished, where love eclipses violence, and where every individual flourishes unencumbered by fear.
With unyielding determination,
