United, We Stand?

Generally, I keep my blogs all about business. But I’d be remiss in my duties as an American and a human being if I didn’t make a statement. I’ll go back to posting about business after the election.
Here’s what’s on my mind today, 3 days out from the election. Read my post, scroll by, comment, feel however you want because I don’t care about opinions at this point. Enough is enough.
Vote for who you want to vote for because if you choose to sit out you have zero right to complain about anything. But here’s the thing.
I’ve recently had to make some decisions to cut some folks (friends, family & acquaintances) out of my friends list, life and circles. Why? Not because they differed with me on political policy, but because we differed on ethical HUMAN issues. They chose to sit silent or laugh at the shenanigans from the right.
Anger and fear has been a driver in this and the past three elections, progressively worse each year. The negativity has ratcheted up exponentially this season. What’s even more astounding is the people who fit so comfortably into it. I can’t just “ignore it” because that doesn’t change anything.
I am a Half Black Half Puerto Rican woman so I feel comfortable in what I’m about to say. At each level of disrespect, that should have been a game changer. You don’t get to wait until he offends you and yours before you wake TF up. He came for Muslims and people clutched the pearls and said “damn that’s foul” but some still chose him. He came for women, and again, clutch the pearls, a few got mad enough to switch sides, but many still chose him or stayed “undecided”.
He came for the Haitians, there was uproar because the violence got turned up even more. And still some stayed undecided or chose him. But then he came for Puerto Rico. Then we had Puerto Ricans, my people, pouring into the streets, airwaves, social media, celebrities coming out making statements of endorsement…where were all of you BEFORE?
Here’s my point. If we these United States are going to heal, we ALL need to decisively turn the page on the bullshit, rhetoric, disrespect, sexist, racist, demeaning clown ish. No amount of tax breaks, policy or anything is going to make me turn a blind eye to all of that. I’m not for sale like that. I’d rather endure a few years of higher taxes (get a damn accountant/tax advisor if you’re that worried!!!), checked power of police and government officials and higher costs at the pump and grocery stores than the unleashing of what they’re doing now, which is only going amplified if he wins.
Watching people emboldened to talk down to folks, disrespect women, mistreat people because of their race or skin tone is unacceptable to me. To my Latinos, especially Puerto Ricans who were undecided or choosing him, it should not have taken them disrespecting Puerto Rico for you to take a stand! If we want to be THESE UNITED STATES we have to stand together and say NO. Not just when it directly affect YOU. And don’t fix your mouth to say “oh that ain’t happening to me”. Yes YOU TOO. I don’t care how well off or rich you may be.
So while I am appreciative of people coming to one side to get rid of the nonsense, I’m disappointed that it had to go so damn far and take so long. To my “friends” and family who still support the other side even after all of this, this is goodbye to you. Yes I will sever ties.
My Daddy used to say let people express how they feel so you can see where they stand. Human rights and humanity beat money & politics every day for me. I will and can always make more money regardless of who is in office. I care more about what’s right. And you’re lying to yourself and the world if you think what has been happening is right.
On to the Israel-Gaza thing. Here’s where I lose more folks. I’m not fully versed on all things middle east. I’m still learning. Yes, Israel has the right to defend itself, no argument there from me. But what’s happening right now is WRONG. That’s not defending themselves. It’s provocation. They want Ha..mas and He…zboll…ah (don’t want to give the algorithm any play). The innocent families should not be punished.
Netanyahu is a war criminal. Period! He’s like the kid in class who as long as he can hide behind his goon friends he’ll talk as much trash and do as much foul stuff as he wants because he knows he has backup. Then wants to cry when a bigger bully smacks the mess out of them.
There are Israelis who are not supporting him. They don’t want this war. And for ANYONE in the US to perpetrate violence and disrespect against them here on our soil is foul and disgusting. NOBODY deserves that. By the same token, anyone attacking middle eastern/Arab/Muslim people are wrong too. The people in Gaza want to live in peace. Not be driven out of their homes. I’ve been saying for years there should be a two state solution, but I can’t make that call. PEACE should be the objective. The orange clown has already said he’ll give Bibi the green light to “finish the job”. That is not right. Innocent people are suffering. What will we do as a nation?
What do we want? As a country how do we move forward and heal? How do we stop the disrespect, political violence, sexism, racism, partisan politics? By getting rid of the source. November 5th, we have a chance to do that. Vote how you want, but just remember voting has consequences. Not voting has even bigger consequences.
You mad? You feel the pinch? GOOD. Hopefully that will motivate you to get up and do something. Voting is not enough. Voting only during presidential elections is not enough. Get out for special elections, midterms, all of that. Go to community meetings, city council meetings, school board meetings, all of that. THEY ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
Learn the government. I post links all the time to the House, Senate and other stuff. As a citizen it is your right to be involved. MAKE TIME. Because the people you vote for (or don’t vote for) will make decisions for you. Be part of the process and not a spectator who complains every four years. I’m calling EVERYBODY out. We have to draw a line in the sand and send that foolishness packing. Not just orange clown. But everywhere.
I have no problem with Republicans, Democrats, Independents and Undecideds who genuinely want to see the whole country prosper and are tired of the BS. I DO have an issue with tyranny. I stand with a united United States. The world is watching. We need to fix this. I did my “Black & Puerto Rican Job”. I voted. But it doesn’t end there. I plan to do more of what I can.
What y’all doing?
