United Way of Southeast Mississippi was presented a donation of $1,100 March 10, 2023, from The Mississippi Association of School Business Officials (MASBO). The donation was collected from MASBO members during their recent Annual Conference.
MASBO President Jennifer Clanton, Chief Financial Officer for?Hattiesburg Public School District, chose United Way of Southeast Mississippi for this year’s conference charity and shared with the Association about United Way's impact in local education. She personally delivered the check and said it was one of the largest collections they've had to date among conference attendees.
“At the end of the day, it’s about the students. [United Way] serves students and helps make the education of our students better. I wanted to make sure I chose an organization that impacts kids,"?Clanton said on why she chose UWSEMS as this year's MASBO charity
United Way's Director of Community Impact Amy Lyon said its contributions like this from MASBO and partnerships with local institutions like Hattiesburg Public School District that make its work of improving local education possible.

We are so thankful for this donation that can continue to help us assist local schools from the community aspect," said Lyon. "So much is expected of our local educators and school administrators and we know that education is not solely the responsibility of school districts. Many educational programs and initiatives occur outside of the school walls/school hours and these funds will help us serve students in that capacity."
Between 2022 and 2023 UWSEMS delivered 6,669 books to children under age 5 through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Additionally, approximately 40 students were provided literacy tutoring through United Way's partnership with Aldersgate Mission. In a collaboration with MiSsion Acceleration, UWSEMS aided in after school literacy intervention for at least 80 Hattiesburg Public School students who lost vital classroom time during the pandemic.
