Uniteam Marine Expands Fleet Taking Over the MV Rome Trader

On October 2nd, a new chapter began for Uniteam Marine as they assumed Technical Management responsibility for the MV Rome Trader, formerly known as the MV Chris, a 56,838-deadweight tonnage (DWT) bulk carrier constructed at Cosco Guangdong Shipyard in China in 2010.

The vessel became part of Uniteam Marine’s management, while she was safely alongside at the CUD Weihai Shipyard in China. Despite the initial unfamiliarity with the vessel, Uniteam Marine’s dedicated crew took charge, actively engaging in overseeing various works during an extended repair period. This involved close collaboration with the shipyard team and attending to service engineers, ensuring a smooth and efficient management transition.

A significant milestone during this process was the installation of a Propeller Boss Cap Fin (PBCF). This innovative device, attached with small fins to the boss cap at the hub of the ship's propeller, enhances propulsion efficiency by counteracting swirls (Hub Vortex) generated by the propeller. The PBCF, rotating with the propeller, serves as an energy-saving device, minimizing fuel consumption by disrupting the hub vortex behind the rotating propeller. This installation aligns with Uniteam Marine’s efforts to implement more sustainable and efficient maritime practices.

Another major project focused on improvements, including the replacement of all hydraulic lines on deck, repair of cylinders for the hatch covers, repairs of cargo cranes, and enhancements to the cargo holds. The goal was to facilitate the transportation of clean cargo upon departure from the shipyard. Rigorous maintenance of the vessel’s grabs and cranes was diligently carried out to ensure optimal performance and safety. Extensive work in the engine room added another layer of complexity, with overhauls performed on both the main engine and auxiliary engines.

On November 8th, Uniteam Marine proudly witnessed the culmination of these efforts as the MV Rome Trader departed the shipyard, marking the completion of various tasks and signaling the beginning of a new chapter. The vessel has now entered a time charter, a testament to the dedication, expertise, and collaborative spirit of the team, the shipyard professionals, and the service engineers involved.
