HAPPY CANADA DAY!

On behalf of the Ukrainian World Congress, I want to wish all Canadians and friends of Canada a Happy Canada Day.

As a proud Ukrainian Canadian, this Canada Day has a special meaning to me. My parents immigrated to Canada over 70 years ago as refugees. They met as teenagers after the end of WW2 at a displaced persons camp in Germany, forced from their homeland by the brutal Nazi and Russian Soviet war machines.

I am grateful that my parents’ refugee journey ended in Canada.

Word of the day is “Snake”, without a doubt

There hasn’t been so much talk about Snake Island since the day Russian ships first arrived. Now the ships have left, we hope forever.?The island is free again.??

President Zelensky thanked military intelligence, the Alpha defenders, gunners and pilots, the airforce and the southern command.

Russian troops abandon Snake Island

The loss of Snake Island could undermine occupier control over key shipping lanes in the Black Sea,?according to the?New York Times.

This small piece of land, located 30 kilometers from the coast of Odesa, has played an outsized role throughout the war. Control over Snake is very important for the protection of sea routes in the northwestern part of the Black Sea. At the same time, Russian propaganda boasts that dominance is complete. There is no indication that Moscow will allow ships to freely enter and exit the port of Odesa.

The UK Ministry of Defence?reacted?to the retreat of the Russians from Snake Island, noting that the reason for such a step was the growing vulnerability to Ukrainian strikes.

Today, enemy?troops?continue?to carry out a creeping encirclement around Lysychansk, approaching from the Popasna direction, eliminating the need to force the Siversky Donets River in this area.?

Current ground fighting is likely to be centered around the Lysychansk Oil Refinery, 10 km southwest of the city center. British intelligence believes that the ability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to fight protracted battles and then retreat to more advantageous positions will remain a key factor in the military campaign in Donbas.?
