UNiTE!
As Alex Marufu Life Coach Pvt Ltd, we stand firmly against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and join the global community in commemorating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from November 25 to December 10. This initiative serves as a crucial reminder of the pervasive human rights violations that women and girls face worldwide. With an alarming statistic indicating that nearly one in three women has experienced physical or sexual violence, it is imperative that we raise awareness and advocate for change. This year’s theme, "UNiTE! Invest to Stop Violence Against Girls and Women! #NoExcuse," calls for a renewed commitment to combat GBV, emphasizing that every voice matters in this fight.
In Zimbabwe, factors such as patriarchy, societal norms, and cultural practices contribute significantly to the prevalence of GBV. Many victims suffer in silence due to a lack of understanding of their rights and available protections under laws like the Domestic Violence Act. It is vital that we educate ourselves and others about these rights to empower survivors and encourage them to seek help. Furthermore, the intersection of climate change and GBV cannot be overlooked; as environmental challenges intensify, women often bear the brunt of these crises, leading to increased vulnerability and violence.
We must collectively work towards creating a safer environment for all women and girls. This includes not only advocating for legislative changes but also fostering community support systems that empower survivors and promote gender equality. Each step taken towards preventing violence is a step towards a more equitable society. Let us unite in this cause, share knowledge, and take action to end GBV once and for all. Together, we can make a difference—because there is #NoExcuse for violence against women and girls.
