Well! Personality cannot be general, it has to be unique and that uniqueness can be polished further, but it has to be repetitive. You cannot imitate the personality of another, simply because your own persona and profession may demand differences. Say for example, an IPS or a bureaucrats cannot have a personality of a stand-up comedian, or a college professor cannot walk and talk like a fashion model. Of course, there is no ban on imitating either the appearance or the behaviour of the other, but then you have to be ready for the repercussions. One could end up looking like a buffoon and the other could end up being called a Christmas tree.
To come to the point, each one of us has to groom our personalities keeping in mind our professions, our culture and our own persona. My best friends are few of those lucky people who can speak their minds without batting their eyelids. Both are humorous and intelligent and do not mind calling a spade a spade. I was like that too, but slowly realized that my profession demanded diplomacy and restraint. Though, truthfully, I’m still struggling with this aspect… yet now I know better.
It would be wise to sit down and find out what works for you and then start working on the things that you find wanting in yourself. All the same, there are certain personality traits that are common to all, like:
- Having a pleasing and pleasant appearance
- Confidence and politeness
- Social, professional and dining etiquette
- Self- control & emotional intelligence
- Ability to learn & introspect
- Time management
- & more
Some personality traits that need to be unique:
- Attitude & demeanour
- Type of clothing
- & more
