The uniquely compelling quality of Hersh Rephun
Charlie Savill
Helping Tech Industry Professionals go from feeling anxious, stressed, and down, to feeling calm, confident, and full of vitality. End imposter syndrome and burnout. Guaranteed.
I knew Hersh and I were singing from the same hymn sheet when he explained his craft.?
As he explained, whether you’re an actor, artist, or entrepreneur, you bring “a certain magic, a certain art to it”.??
We can’t help it. We are creative by nature.?
Hersh has the skill to capture that unique spark
He calls himself a ‘message therapist’.
I love the power of words. In particular, how you can combine them to suggest something beyond their individual meaning. Hersh does this 'message' + 'therapist'. It draws you in, makes you curious and captures your imagination.
Words can hold so much nuance.
Hersh’s father was German and settled in America as a child. He therefore had to learn to embrace a new language. He did exactly that and always wanted his kids to have a strong vocabulary. Hersh took on the mantle.
But it’s not just about words.?
To find that spark, the deep-set gifts within, we need to ask the right questions. Within the answers lie the clues. In my case, the answer triggers feelings that reveal the hidden truth, for others, they intuit it. Hersh listens deeply. And I don’t doubt his ability to mine the treasures there because his uniquely compelling quality
Once revealed it’s about messaging in a way that’s accessible and inviting.
Hersh learned his wordsmithing writing film scripts and doing PR for renowned directors. Scripts are especially challenging. If your writing is not tight, mistakes get magnified on the big screen for everyone to see.
And why’s all this so important?

Hersh made a good observation. Telling people what you do
Over the last decade, there’s been a huge shift in how people present themselves and the platforms we use, there are all these different ways to promote ourselves, from LinkedIn to Social Media as well as face-to-face. We need to calibrate our voice
Hersh cited an example of a filmmaker, who had devised a new way of making content available while justly rewarding all those involved (something which rarely happens).
He was going to the Sundance Film Festival to promote his new paradigm.
Hersh told him that if he went to Sundance and told everybody he was a filmmaker, then he’d be losing half of his audience who were also filmmakers. They’d think of him as competition. If talking to actors, they’d think he was trying to cast them.
So he advised him to call himself a ‘creator advocate’. Someone looking out for all creators currently on the wrong end of the royalty ladder. Instead, he was an advocate for their financial well-being while understanding them because he was a filmmaker.
It was like a light bulb went off.
He went to Sundance and then reported back to Hersh, “Oh my God, it was amazing. I was telling people I'm a creator advocate and everybody was interested.’
Our gifts, knowledge, and skills combine to create a powerful and uniquely compelling creative force. When we understand the nature of it and how to communicate it, we can leverage it for maximum impact

8 个月Loved the article Charlie! The idea Hersh had for the filmmaker is brilliant. And as a curiosity advocate, I cannot tell you how true the statement about the importance of it being a powerful tool. I call it a strategic tool too.
