The success of a project largely depends on the type of methodology you choose to succeed in your project. One can choose waterfall or Agile methodology or you can choose to combine both in a hybrid model.
In one of the project where I was managing for an enterprise customer , it was seen that the project was scheduled in phases and that means that the customer had a large project assigned for you, but would like you to complete a bunch of them at one go.
Lets say we have 16 projects to be completed in one phase but the client wants to release 4 projects bundled together for each phase. This means that once we complete one phase, only then can we go to the other.
Before my arrival at the project , it was just not going in the right direction and was almost derailed and behind schedule. I was given the task to bring it to the right direction and ensure that the client would be happy.
Hence my plan was a combination of agile and waterfall and my project plan was made to suite the project with multiple phase.
For further transparency we had the board where in the projects were displayed with the start date and the end date.
Each team member of my team and the client had an idea when the project would start and get completed and the team members would have to buck up when the target dates had to be met.
Soon we ensured and delivered to the client what was promised on time and as per schedule.
The client not only provided us with more projects but also made full payments for all completed projects.
If someone is better off with their own Project management plan and the customer accepts it then becomes a win-win situation for both, and then it must be followed.
At the end of the day we need projects to succeed and also have a happy customer who would in-turn give more projects.
