Success with Wood
Here is a little tale of success I wish to share today.
A number of years ago some very dear friends of mine became aware of the crises we are facing in terms of natural resources being exploited for commercial gain.
Coming from a landscaping and horticultural background they had become disillusioned by the ever increasing waste of our natural resources.
Humanity seems to believe we have a never ending supply falling from the skies.
They set about creating the ultimate in durable and stylish furniture made from African wood. This has proven to be so fashionable they are soon opening a second large retail store due to public demand.
They have created real employment for a number of local people, and are allowing for master craftsman to work the trade they love. Many of the items are created from wood which would otherwise be discarded.
By combining the artistic with the commercial element and the conservation of natural resources by using discarded materials, they are creating a win- win situation for everyone.
Imagine a world where this could be done with many other items laying on a dump somewhere?
How many tales are told around the dinner table as to where this or that item of furniture originated from even the table the discussion is taking place from?
People have become wise in terms of purchasing household goods. No longer is there any desire to purchase something originating from a sweat shop in China.
Due to the price of imports and the questionable quality of goods especially from the far East. It is perhaps time to look local again. In South Africa we are “Rand Locked†and many retail outlets import from other countries making the end price to the consumer so much higher.
Employment goods and material are local therefore the money stays right here in our own country.
They hold a high regard of loyalty to our country and therefore support a number of home grown charitable causes. The simple philosophy of “what comes around goes around.â€
I simply believe sharing is caring, and well done to Wimpie and Janco. You have set a fine example of what we should be aspiring to.
