Unique E-Transit “cable car” highlights vast Ford Pro conversion potential

Ford Pro Pro vehicles are helping customers achieve their long-term aims and fulfilling specialised roles for businesses and operators all across Europe. Often, these tasks require unique and innovative conversions, for which our zero-tailpipe emissions E-Transit is the perfect vehicle. 1

?

The specially converted electric E-Transit “cable car” mooring vehicle in operation at the Aarhus Havn - Port of Aarhus has to be one of the most remarkable examples I’ve seen yet, performing under pure electric power and supporting their goals of carbon neutrality by 2030. 2

?

In keeping with their carbon neutrality goals, Denmark’s largest container port replaced a traditional diesel-powered vehicle with an adapted, zero tailpipe emissions electric E-Transit.3 The perfect solution to match their requirements, the special E-Transit is equipped with powerful, electric winches to reel in the mooring lines that secure enormous cargo ships in port.

?

Aarhus Havn - Port of Aarhus says it is the first electric mooring vehicle of its kind in Scandanavia. Developed using an E-Transit chassis cab model with the support of Knebel Drilling A/S , it’s easily capable of performing the role previously fulfilled by diesel-powered vehicles, but while producing significantly less noise and zero tailpipe emissions – on the road to being carbon neutral by the end of the decade.

?

This specialised E-Transit has two winches powered by an independent 24-volt power system, each capable of pulling up to 700 kg. One winch is used to anchor the vehicle in place while the other pulls ashore the substantial mooring cables. It’s an impressive sight to witness.

?

Further bespoke modifications to the E?Transit L3 chassis cab donor vehicle include a lightweight aluminium body that offers greater resistance to corrosion when working around salt water.

?

Collaborations like this example with specialist converter, Knebel Drilling A/S and the Aarhus Havn - Port of Aarhus demonstrate the immense potential of Ford Pro products and services to boost productivity in almost any environment.

?

Our Ford Pro Convertor program can connect Ford Pro customers with a network of 200 expert convertors to create specialist vehicles with full Ford-approved support whatever the job.

“We have been exploring various electric vehicles for a while to see if they could provide a platform for the electric winch from Knebel Drilling, and we found that in the Ford E-Transit. We are very proud to have been a part of the development of an entirely new specialised vehicle for the industry.”

1 In accordance with the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). A range of up to 317 km (intended target value according to WLTP) can be achieved with a fully charged battery - depending on the existing series and battery configuration.
