A Unique Celebration: Planning a Special Get-Together with "Recipes from the Heart"

Susan Capurso, an End-of-Life Doula and Lisa Strahs-Lorenc, a Bereavement Support Specialist discussed the upcoming holidays and the challenge of missing our loved ones. An idea to bring the memories of our loved ones to a special gathering is what we call, Recipes from the Heart. For this special occasion, each person is invited to bring a food, story and recipe to the gathering. The food should be a memory of that loved one and the story behind it.

Lisa described her pumpkin bread, and what that memory meant to her of her husband from 1977 when she received the receipe for an engagement party made by her fellow teachers while she was at a preschool. Susan talked about the memories of her husband and what he enjoyed for food--Chinese food. All it takes to make this a successful event is some organization, invitations, and people who want to participate.

What a wonderful way to bring our loved ones' memories to the table, and share the stories that made them so special.
