Uninspiring Digital Presence

I am currently mid-delivery of a strategy... I've hit the part where I sit down and look at their competitors and honestly, my reaction is more often than not

"Well, this won't be hard to stand out."

My current client has a broad range of competition, from mid-large sized corporates that operate internationally to little homegrown Aussies who sit at the $750- $Mil mark

But the one thing that has been consistent for the 6 businesses I have already researched in this industry...

Their branding sucks.

The big guys have no soul or humanity tied into their branding (harsh but true)

And the smaller businesses look like Mum and Dad built the website when the internet was first launched and are yet to update.

I am talking basic errors like load times, a random who am I video in the banner, and enough stock images to leave none for the rest of the industry.

Then there's the content problems...

Honestly how much do you expect me to read with no flow?

...I say it all the time, this is your digital shop window, I won't enter if it doesn't look inviting, or I will, but I'll run out screaming.

I understand that with my background it is easy to say "These are the 1%ers you need to get right, and they're obvious." But truly if you're running your own business, you should want it to look as schmick online as it does when they interact with you. Nothing is more disappointing than seeing a great keynote, meeting someone at a networking event and then finding out they have a shit digital presence, it dims the experience.

As social media landscapes change, become filled with bots and AI, and become harder to be noticed I cannot emphasise the importance of having a website you can send people to when you're connecting with them, especially if you impress them when you meet them, the most embarrassing thing to do would be to then let them down when they go away to see how they can work with you and stumble across the half ass website your cousin's wife's sister did for you because she had some role in a business back in 2019 and learned some stuff about digital marketing.

Are you serious about your business? Well, start acting like it.

If you want to grow you have to invest. It's simple.

And no amount of marketing is worth your time if you don't have your entire digital footprint as schmick as your bragging posts on social media.
