Unilever To Cut 7,500 Jobs As It Spins Off Ice Cream Business

Unilever will spin off its ice cream business and cut 7,500 jobs as part of a new cost-saving programme, it was announced today.

Investors cheered the plan, with Unilever shares up 5.4% in early trading.

The spinoff, which will include brands such as Magnum and Ben & Jerrys, will begin immediately and is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.

Nearby Opens 150th Store As Customer Wins €1m In National Lotto

Nearby has opened its 150th store in Ireland – O’Halloran’s Nearby Oola in County Limerick – with a weekend full of celebrations, music and deals for the local community.

During the celebrations, a customer discovered they had purchased a winning lotto ticket at the store, taking home €1 million.

Store owner Tom O’Halloran said of the development, “We couldn’t believe our luck, let alone the customer’s luck – things like this don’t happen here!

Cheerios Maker General Mills Tops Market Expectation For Third Quarter

General Mills – the makers of Cheerios – topped market expectation for sales and profit in the third quarter as increased prices offset slower demand, it was reported today.

The maker of breakfast cereals, snack bars and pet food products saw shares rise 3% in premarket trading.

This occurred after it reaffirmed its annual sales and profit targets for a third time this year.

Total supply chain solutions provider Oakland International has received a BRCGS AA+ grade for two of its depots following unannounced inspections, the company revealed this week.

This is a big step and may nudge companies to relook at icecream as a category. It's a huge capex and logistics driven category and does really drive a lot of energies from the main business for any company.
