Unidos Connections Group | HealthEquity
As one of our five Employee Resource Groups (ERG) at HealthEquity, Unidos is proud to celebrate Hispanic and Latino teammates. We're over the moon to have teammates from all walks of life who bring their unique cultures and experiences to make HealthEquity such a vibrant and connected community.
We sat down with one of the remarkable Unidos co-chairs, Melissa Murray , to shine a spotlight on how the group has added that extra special touch to HealthEquity - from organizing creative events to showing extraordinary care for their fellow teammates.
What inspired Unidos to form??
The Connections group was created to educate our surrounding communities - both inside and outside of work - and encourage the celebration of Hispanic and Latino culture. Our leaders recognize the importance of honoring different backgrounds and want to extend HealthEquity's mission to those Hispanic and Latino communities through organizing community outreach events.??
What kind of events does Unidos host?
We host and participate in a variety of community events that provide opportunities to showcase and educate our communities about our cultures and traditions. An event that our group is most proud of was being a part of the Cinco de Mayo festival in Dallas, Texas, which reached the largest audience that Unidos has ever seen. While showcasing our culture, we were also able to educate attendees on HSAs and the HealthEquity mission of connecting health and wealth.

?"Our team members have represented HealthEquity at different Hispanic community gatherings and educated the Hispanic community on the many benefits of HSAs. We have also invited well known guest speakers to our meetings who have reminded us of the great potential and limitless opportunities available to us."?Raquel Zamora
Unidos stays connected through active team member chats, guest speakers, recipe and music swapping, and a warm and inviting atmosphere for all team members to learn and celebrate.
How has Unidos impacted teammates and HealthEquity???
As Unidos has pushed our mission forward, the team has received positive feedback from Hispanic team members expressing their appreciation for the celebration of their culture and traditions. Non- Hispanic team members have also shared their enthusiasm for learning about Hispanic traditions and gaining insights into any stereotypes that they might not be aware of.?
"I have enjoyed meeting team members from other Hispanic/Latino cultures as I am of Mexican descent. We discovered that even though we may be different in some areas, we are alike in many! We share music interests, which is one of my favorite topics as I love music and dancing. We also have non-Latino members that have joined, and I love that they get to learn and celebrate our experiences and culture with us.?I cannot express the gratitude I have for this group." - Gina Walker
What exciting plans does Unidos have for the future???
We're excited to bring in Erika Cruz as part of our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Erika, a Hispanic entrepreneur and founder of a successful coaching program named Courage Driven Latina, will share her insights on empowerment and goal achievement. Unidos is confident that this event will inspire attendees to take proactive steps towards realizing their aspirations and goals.??
The incredible leadership and unwavering dedication of Unidos is truly remarkable. This Connections group has created a ripple effect that's steering HealthEquity closer to our goal of embracing inclusion at every turn. We're absolutely thrilled to watch this group flourish and spread their positive influence throughout their communities.
