An Unhinged 'Reli'
The moment I walked outdoors this morning, I found the temperature far warmer that it was our mornings before, which was a confirmation we managed to bypass another light frost, so hopefully we will be into October before the first one arrives.
After getting all my little commitments taken care of before the hour of eight, I decided to change into my work clothes and turn into a janitor in a drum for as long as I could, so off I went from one little project in waiting to another, and by the time the Noon hour arrived, I'd managed to complete nearly everything I buried myself into, with the exception of several outside jobs which I couldn't get at because of the welcome rain we were getting.
Of course while out working, I managed to cross paths with someone whom I'd spoken with on occasion, and for whatever reason, I asked how she liked her living quarters, and wouldn't you know, she proceeded to tell me the both of them decided to purchase a home, so they'll be moving out soon. Since her family had their 'favorite' Realtor, I didn't even ask why they didn't contact me. I think I shocked her a little bit when after she told me the address of her new home, my then saying, "Oh, I know that home well because I happened to have sold it over these long years, two separate points in time."
What I did manage to find out, was how crazy these apartment rentals are getting which included the one she's moving out of. I never would've dreamed they were paying over $925.00 per month for a studio apartment, and of course she insisted it was the best they could find because 'The River' apartments are even more expensive.
What I thought was so creepy/cool, was her having mentioned the problems a friend of hers was having with her apartment which just happens to be at 'The River'. She went on to say how her friend was was 'wowed' by the newness of 'The River', but after she moved in, she soon discovered how cheaply those units were built because there were actually components which were either falling apart or wearing out. Well, I guess I no longer have to wait to speak to one of those tenants in person, because I heard it from a best friend.
She went on to say how difficult it was to find a decent apartment in our city because there are so many of them that are subsidized which she wouldn't have qualified for. I fully agreed with her, but what I couldn't help adding, "Now if these so-called 'investors' would build quality apartments in this town, I'd be all for it, but definitely not these ticky-tacky apartment build-outs which'll definitely have short life spans." She also mentioned something about the investor who's now building in that hole down on the corner, now setting his sights on the land where the Kirk Apartments used to be. Oh won't that be a treat? Not! I've come to the conclusion that any investor who's got out of County or out of State license plates on their vehicles, get the red carpet treatment by our City Administration. Hmm...So I guess a prophet is truly never a prophet in his own land, but I didn't realize until about ten years ago, they instead listen to some pretty shady characters.

The highlight of my day, was my having assisted a very needy person in securing much-needed housing, and since I also met the tenant's parents, I immediately sensed they were some really good folks who were nearing desperation in finding their child something that was both livable and affordable. Before they left, I did mention their call having been beyond coincidence because I'd neglected to contact two others who'd made inquiries yesterday, which is definitely not like me to do such a thing, so I guess it was all meant to be.
I had to make a delivery to a company this afternoon and as chance would have it, I ran into a guy who's always been in the know whom I'd not seen for at least a year, so after I quickly finished up my business with the clerk, we stepped aside and had a really good conversation which was beneficial for the both of us because I gave him information he was lacking, while he filled me in on things I wasn't aware of. My goodness! Did I ever get an earful! Without giving any indication as to what we were discussing, there's no doubt there are those who've got the impression that Mason City is the center of the universe, and for whatever reason, they're hell-bent on creating a footprint, so it's either a house of cards, or they've made too much money to where they're now throwing it to the wind.
I also mentioned the fact that over these many years, I've noticed how others who've spent money as if it were growing on trees, always seem to be those who freely squander their ill-begotten gains, which goes right back to the concept where if you don't really work for what you're given, then it's not appreciated, and believe me, I see and hear of it time and time again. Just this past week, a client mentioned have given a 'reli' over a thousand dollars to have several broken teeth fixed, and wouldn't you know, those teeth are still un-repaired.
Since I hadn't spoken to my 'in the know' person in well over a year, I had to fill him to the brim with what my unhinged 'reli' did to me a year ago, and I think for the first time, he got a glimpse of my dark side, and especially when I spoke about those who were the enablers. He actually agreed our society's mentality is greed driven, which is why I also added, "If my 'reli' and those involved were suddenly turned into door mats, I wouldn't even lower myself to wipe my feet on them." Yes, when evil minds go out of their way to hurt others, they should forevermore be placed in such lowly positions. He fully concurred.
