AN UNFORGIVING AFTERMATH
The Pandemic may be over, but it's aftermath is unforgiving! The rate of suicide, fear, anxiety, insanity, and depression it left, it worst than any other form of mental health crisis that we have experienced in recent history.
Now, that we know the world is not completely healed, what are we going to do about it? How are we going to find our own healing? It is apparent the government is not our place of solace and comfort. It is apparent, we were hit hard with something that we were NOT expecting, that left us with questions, still NOT answered.
How much damage did it really do that remains unknown? How has it impacted our children for generations to come? Will this vaccine work? These questions and more lie beneath the surface of our mask conversations about our future and the world.
This is what we all must remember. God was not surprised, thrown off or derailed by the likes of Covid-19 or anything else, you may have been going through.
What we must remember is that Depression is just as much a disease as any physical disease. As a matter of fact, medical science states that many diseases are precipitated by mental health issues such as depression.
Depression can be a difficult challenge to overcome, but there are many effective ways to manage and alleviate its symptoms. Here are some strategies that may be helpful:
1. Seek help: The first step in overcoming depression is to seek help from a mental health professional. A therapist or counselor can help you understand your feelings and develop coping strategies to manage your symptoms. Many Christians feel they can go at it alone, and find ways to manage without assistance. The Bible teaches that in the multitude of counselors there is safety. While reading your Bible and Prayer are part of the course, we must remember that there are people called to serve in the area of Mental Health.
2. Exercise: Exercise has been shown to have a positive effect on mental health and can help alleviate symptoms of depression. Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day. I recently returned to the gym with a modest yet robust routine. I am finding it is helping me to remember my own value. Perhaps it will do the same for you.
3. Connect with others: Social support is important for managing depression. Reach out to friends and family, join a support group, or consider volunteering to connect with others. I am an active volunteer as a Advocate. It provides me with the outlet needed to not only serve at a local level, but also to make an impact where it is needed.
4. Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself is important for managing depression. Make time for activities you enjoy, practice relaxation techniques like meditation or focused breathing exercises, and prioritize getting enough sleep.
5. Challenge negative thoughts: Depression can cause negative thinking patterns. Challenge these thoughts by questioning their validity and replacing them with more positive or realistic ones. There is nothing better than overriding negative thoughts with the Words of Faith. When you speak Truth over your circumstances, they must come into alignment with what God has said about you.
The other thing is to remember that overcoming depression is a process and may take time. Be patient with yourself and celebrate small victories along the way. For many people, prayer can be a helpful tool in managing and overcoming depression. Here are some ways to use prayer to help alleviate symptoms of depression:
1. Find a quiet place: Find a quiet place where you can be alone and comfortable. This could be a room in your home, a park bench, or a quiet corner of a library or church.
2. Connect with the God of the Bible: Many people find comfort in connecting with the God of the Bible through prayer. This could be through traditional religious practices or through a personal spiritual practice.
3. Express your feelings: Use prayer as a way to express your feelings and emotions. Share your struggles with the God of the Bible and ask for guidance and support.

4. Practice gratitude: Gratitude is a powerful antidote to depression. Take time during your prayer to focus on the things in your life that you are thankful for. Make s list of those things and refer to them daily, especially when you awake.?
5. Seek support: Consider joining a prayer group or seeking support from a spiritual leader or counselor. They can offer guidance and support as you work to overcome depression.
It's important to remember that prayer along with professional mental health treatment could be highly beneficial to you. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, it's important to seek help from a mental health professional.?
Most Pastors are trained in dealing with mental health issues from a spiritual perspective and some are not. Whatever you do, do not go through this alone. God has people out here to help you get through those dark days and I can promise you, there is help if you ask.
Your life does not have to remain stuck in the same depressive state. The God of the Bible promises to turn your sadness in to gladness!?
