My Take on Foldables
In my view, foldable smartphones have definitely brought a fresh dose of newness and innovation to the monotonous smartphone market. However, they do face significant challenges that need to be addressed, such as Concerns about durability, pocketability, lack of practical use cases, value addition they bring, and high cost. Currently, Flip form factor is handy for content creators and people who vlog or take selfies and want to experience foldable tech without adding any extra bulk to their pockets, while foldable (tablet) form factor is a perfect fit for corporate users and creative professionals, providing easy access to presentations, spreadsheets, meetings, and designs on the move without the burden of carrying separate devices like a phone and a tablet. Personally, I'm intrigued by the Pixel Fold's passport-like form factor, which looks a lot like a traditional smartphone.?
Still, use cases of a Foldable smartphone are pretty limited for a general consumer at the moment. I look forward to Apple's approach to foldable devices, which has the potential to step up the innovation game. Ultimately, I believe both Apple and Samsung will emerge as significant players in the foldable device market, while others will strive to make the technology relatively affordable and accessible.?
