The unfinished revolution: HR and digitalisation

HR departments are in the midst of a digital revolution, but how’s it going?

At AdviserPlus, we’ve decided to delve deeper into the digital changes that HR professionals are currently putting into place with an eBook that aims to address the following four key questions:

·     What, if anything, will hold back digitalisation?

·     What do HR professionals think about digital technologies?

·     How can digitalisation help to change the workplace?

·     What will the future hold for HR as technology continues to drive and shape the change in our industry?

Clearly, these questions are pretty fundamental for us all to consider in 2018 – and some of us will be further along the road to full digitalisation than others.

What did 200 industry experts have to say?

The starting point for our eBook was a survey. It’s vital, after all, to understand what professionals in HR think and what their experiences are of the world around them. This survey, answered by 200 experts in the industry, gave us a rich understanding of the current state of play and provided the foundations for a more detailed analysis in the eBook.

From here we’ve picked the brains of key figures within AdviserPlus and interviewed external experts with their finger on the HR pulse. They were able to help us put the results into context and discuss the possible reasons for the answers we received.

The resulting eBook covers the following topics:

·     The skills shortage – Our respondents think there’s a lack of the digital skills required in HR. We look at why that might be and ways it can be fixed.

·     Attitudes to digitalisation – Do people welcome the digital revolution? Do they think it will improve the workplace? We discover what people in HR think about the drive towards a more digital HR system.

·     Equality – Workplaces need to play their part in embracing greater equality, but can technology help this?

·     The generation gap – How can businesses effectively manage a workforce that spans the generations? This chapter looks at this issue through the prism of digitalisation.

·     What’s next? – Technological advances continue, so what will that mean for HR in the future?
