Unfinished Business

Unfinished Business

I had a conversation with a colleague today. Some months ago, he and a business colleague had a bad breakup over a piece of business they did together. They have spoken since, but the feelings of hurt, betrayal, distrust, mistrust, and disappointment linger on both sides.

Whether they are “finished” as business partners or transactors, they still have unfinished business. The load is still there. The baggage is still following behind.

I know this because they’ve both told me about “what happened.” If you’re still telling other people about “what happened” more than about a week later, you have unfinished business.

“Why do I have to go first?” was the question he asked me.

Neither side thinks they’re in the wrong. It’s the other guy. So, why, indeed?

“Because of how you’ll feel about yourself on the other side.”

Extending a hand. Opening your heart. Seeking to hear and understand. Living into your “no matter whats.” Speaking from your heart.

These are all things that make space for forgiveness and healing. It doesn’t matter what happens after that.

Do you have “unfinished business?” We all do. Don’t wait for someone else to put down your baggage. That one is on you.
