Unfiltered Thoughts: How do you define being tenacious?Determined or Stubborn?

It’s been a minute.

Have you missed me and my unfiltered thoughts?

I wish I had an elaborate, entertaining story for why I stepped away from writing, but the truth is, I just stopped. I lost my momentum.

Has that ever happened to you? You know what I’m talking about; you start something you enjoy but suddenly stop, for no good reason…

I guess what’s important is that I found my way back. I’m a bit tenacious in that way. When I love something, I can’t stay away.

When you hear the word tenacious (or tenacity), what quality comes to mind? Determined? Resilient? Or maybe stubborn? Or does it depend on who you think of when you hear the word?

And of course, I ask the question because I have an unfiltered thought I wanted to share.

Tenacity is an underutilized word that speaks to someone’s ability to inspire and empower others. It’s a natural leadership quality that I quite admire. Tenacious leaders lead by example, demonstrating the importance of perseverance, resilience, and determination. They motivate their teams to overcome obstacles and strive for excellence, fostering a culture of success and achievement.

Being tenacious has allowed me to cultivate a growth mindset and inner resilience in all aspects of my life. It’s not stubbornness that grew my business, it’s my determination and ability to pivot when needed because it’s best for my clients. And being stubborn certainly isn’t the quality that gets me out of bed at some ungodly hour each morning to get to the gym before the sun rises.

Let’s bring this back to why this #UnfilteredThought began. I’m reviving the word tenacity. I’m bringing it out of the archives to give it its rightful place as an adjective describing leadership and as an attribute we admire in others.

Think about it this way—if I wasn’t tenacious, you wouldn’t be reading this. And that is what I believe is what they call a mic drop!

Happy I’m back? Let me know below so I can justify having a glass of wine at dinner tonight.

Be authentic. Be real. Be kind.
