Unexpected New Beginnings

I'm alive and surviving this heat - I had a few diversions the past couple of months but the journaling continued until I was ready to touch base.

Warmer weather almost always puts people in a good mood. A rejuvenated outlook on your day, the alarm doesn’t seem too early during the summer season.??

New beginnings come in many different forms; professionally, personally, habitually.??Changing routines can shake up even the most grounded and stable patterns and that’s a positive result in my mind.?

But what does a typical day look like for me???Nothing is repeated or predictable, I can tell you that much. My calendar is constantly changing, as are my geographies as I navigate the day. ?

My personal “new” mornings begun back in November 2021. A habitual “reset” before the conveniently timed January 1st resolutions.??Believe me, those winter wake ups were not fun but now it’s become a routine and one that returns immeasurable benefits.

Endless studies on this topic, but here was an interesting read;

Here’s what (almost) 24 hours looks like with me.?

On the work front, long gone are the days of climbing the corporate ladder. The past decade has taught the business world that PEOPLE are the most valuable asset to a company. Employees are realizing their worth, but employers who've provided the structure and support for their workforce are fairing best during this most recent market cycle. ?

Market Pulse:

  • Continued activity in the core sectors of NYC; Legal, Finance, PE/Hedge Fund, Insurance, Engineering and also in the transportation hubs; Penn St., Port Authority and Grand Central. Downtown is still lagging unless you're a ferry commuter or coming in from BK.
  • The new zeroirving asset - snapping up Sequoia Capital for 10 years - $150+ in rent with 18 months free.
  • 1330 Ave of Am sells for $325mm.
  • Tech/Creative industries have retracted the most, yes from a layoff perspective, but also from reduced encouragement to return to in-office occupancy. Interested to see how this evolves later this year.
  • The continued in-office consensus = slightly less space, but design and function is modular and intentionally collaborative.
  • Most astounding thing I've heard recently, from a C-suite exec - "the beach can function just as well as a conference room."

Generically, conversations with businesses are plentiful - everyone wants to know what's going on in the commercial sector, how they can stay relevant for recruitment/retention purposes and position themselves for the long haul. A stark contrast to 2019 when seemingly most people I spoke to;

  • "had a guy"
  • "knew the market data" or
  • "wasn't moving."

Oh how things have changed.

Last month I started a new chapter in my professional career; opportunities come in many variations. The timing never seems ideal, but one thing is for sure, everyone’s time does come, it just might not be when you expect it.?

Happy Summer?
