??Aha! Moment
Recently, while catching up with a friend of over 20 years, we talked about my journey since leaving the toxic work environment I found myself in. In the conversation, I experienced a significant 'Aha!' moment that I could finally put into words; besides working on healing myself, I also had to redefine relationships.
Over the last five months, I have learned the power and necessity of reevaluating connections. The real eye-opener? The best gift I received was from those whom I considered close friends. Some of them simply walked away from me, and I've never heard from them again.
Initially, this really hurt; it felt like a loss, and I struggled to understand why, but I realize now it was a true gift. Looking back, I can see how most of these individuals weren't the friends I thought they were; they were actually a major part of the negative, toxic work environment. I just didn't see it at the time. This was a tough but necessary realization that helped me break free from all the negativity.
Along with redefining relationships, I've also learned the importance of setting boundaries around conversations. The need to not engage in discussions about the past. This decision has been key in maintaining my peace of mind and focusing on positive, forward-looking interactions. It's about protecting my mental space and ensuring my conversations contribute to my well-being and growth.
This experience has shown me the strength in setting boundaries, not just with a place, but with people. It's about consciously choosing who we allow into our lives and how they influence our well-being. Now, I focus on nurturing supportive and positive relationships, a crucial step toward a healthier, happier environment.
To anyone navigating a similar path, remember: it's okay to redefine your circle and place boundaries around the nature of your conversations. Surround yourself with people who uplift you and engage in discussions that foster positivity and growth. This power to choose your relationships and how you interact is a profound step towards healing and growth.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, seeking guidance through coaching can be incredibly beneficial. As someone who has walked this path, I can help guide you through the process of redefining relationships and setting healthy boundaries. Reach out, and let's embark on this journey together towards a more fulfilling life. Keep moving forward, embracing the good that comes with change.
1??One Thing I...
???Learned?- Do you know who Stephanie Courtney is? I learned all about Stephanie, a.k.a. Flo from Progressive, in this article published in the New York Times. Having worked for years in insurance and around another well-known spokesperson. I found this statement at the end of the article powerful.
"Perhaps willingly capping our creative potential secures access to a reliable paycheck. Forfeiting on thing for the promise of something else later is a sophisticated human idea. Our understanding of this concept enables us to sell one another insurance."
?? Read?- ?Searching for my PB&J Sandwich: My American Dream by Aramis Jordan is a powerful and moving account. It vividly portrays how a symbol as simple as a PB&J sandwich can represent hope and transformation. Jordan's personal story of overcoming childhood abuse and adversity to pursue his dreams underscores the significance of kindness and support. The book goes beyond a tale of survival; it's a celebration of the strength found in small gestures and aspirations. For anyone questioning the impact of compassion, this book is a compelling reminder of the profound influence empathy can have in changing lives.

?? Watched?- It's basketball season, and I love watching my nephew's 8th-grade basketball games. There's something about bundling up on a cold night, heading to the gym, and being greeted by the familiar smell of popcorn and a burst of school spirit. It's a place where friends meet and cheer, creating an energy-filled atmosphere.
But the real magic happens on the court. Watching these 15 young athletes, whom I've seen play since they were just four or five years old, come together to play hard is nothing short of inspiring. Sure, winning is great, but what truly gets me is how they support each other - every pass, every play, every point. You can see a small part of it in this video: Tri-Valley Vikings.
Pay special attention to the bench; the camaraderie and encouragement there are just as important as the game itself. They've come a long way since they were five, both in their skills and knowledge of the game, but more importantly, in how they support each other. Watching them is not just entertaining; it's a reminder of the joy and unity sports can bring. Go Vikings!
?? Accomplished?- I'm excited to work with a new client looking to explore her career options. My accomplishment was thinking through a coaching strategy and setting up a few different assessments to help us explore their personality, interests, strengths, and confidence in their abilities. I'm looking forward to seeing what is uncovered!

Q:?What would you say was the best leadership advice you were ever given?
?A: Thank you for this question, as it caused me to reflect on my corporate career and think about how that advice applies to where I am today.
I remember discussing with my boss at the time my aspirations to be promoted to a 2nd line leader, feeling anxious about when or if it would happen. During that conversation, she shared a piece of advice that has stayed with me: "Don't be in a hurry; enjoy and focus on each position, and the next will come." This advice shifted my perspective, teaching me the value of being fully present and engaged in my current role. It highlighted the importance of mastering my current responsibilities, assuring me that the next role or promotion would follow. This wisdom has been a guiding principle in my leadership journey.
Reflecting on that advice now as I start my own business, it resonates more than ever. It reminds me to focus on the present, learn as things unfold, and fully engage in each step of this new journey. Instead of fixating on future uncertainties, I concentrate on today's tasks, building a strong foundation for my business. It helps me to grow, ensuring I'm prepared for future opportunities and challenges. I simply need to embrace the process, learn from each experience, and be present in every moment of my entrepreneurial journey.
