Is Unequal Treatment An Injustice?

Dear Tech Industry,
When I was 12, my two cousins and I lived in the same house. I always felt that we should be treated equally, exactly the same. But I was the one who was always getting yelled at while they got away with what seemed like murder! It seemed so unfair. InJustice! Is this situation familiar to you?
The word injustice, meaning a lack of fairness, is used so frequently and while many situations are "unfair", unequal treatment is not necessarily injustice.
My siblings may have received special attention because of a talent, personality or needs and while this was always painful to see, the real question was, Are my NEEDS being neglected? When I needed advice, help, or support, was someone there for me? Since I and my siblings are individuals with various needs, it was impossible for my parents to treat us the same all the time. I'm glad they didn't. We needed to be treated differently.
Equal treatment is not always fair and fair treatment is not always equal.
My siblings and I are all different people and needed to be treated differently. Being different ages and having different experience in life, we did not need "equal opportunity" parents, we needed EQUITY of opportunity from our parents.
I hope you can take something from this and use it in your hiring practices.
Sincerely,
The Short Kid on The Right
