UNEP-ATF: Progress on Certification Scheme in HPMP Frame for Qatar & Kuwait

The new year 2020 has brought a step forward in the implementation of a national certification scheme for personnel and companies working in the Refrigeration Servicing Sector (RSS) in two crucial Middle East countries: Kuwait and Qatar. This is made possible thanks to a project started in 2018 between UN Environment Programme and the Association of Italian Refrigeration Technicians (ATF), that co-operate in the bigger frame of the national HPMP (HCFC Phase-down Management Plan) process. ATF is responsible of drafting the certification scheme, following its longstanding experience in Italy and throughout the EU (especially thanks to the expertise of its Secretary General Mr Marco Buoni, the current President of the European Association of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Association AREA) with the EC Regulation 2067/2015 and the F-Gas certification, implemented through legislations at national level in many countries.

The project will furthermore feature two training sessions in the coming months:

1.      a Train-the-Trainers session to be held in Doha - Qatar, at the beginning of April 2020, for 15 trainers from Qatar who will be later in charge of delivering hands-on training themselves to the national servicing technicians;

2.      a Master Trainer session to be held in Istanbul - Turkey, at the end of April 2020, for participants both from Kuwait and from Qatar, who will profit from this exclusive opportunity to witness how training and assessment are conducted in a EU Country with a longstanding experience and great technology in the HVACR field.
