Unemployed Job Seekers: What Are You Going To Do Differently To Change Your Job Search Results?

If you're newly unemployed, it's critical to realize that if you want to avoid a long, frustrating search, you'll need to do things differently than your last job search.

And if you've been searching for a while and haven't gotten the right (or any) offers, it's the tough question you need to answer.

What are you going to differently, in order to get different unemployment job search results?

While there are many things you can do differently, some strategies can be incredibly effective to help you beat unemployment faster. Unfortunately, most aren't effective enough to change your results significantly.?

Searching when you're unemployed is more difficult, because you compete with currently employed job seekers, who are just as qualified as you, without the risks your unemployment presents to employers.

At the same time, job seeker competition has increased 25% over the past year, while hiring has slowed by 20% - more job seekers searching for fewer jobs.

This results in many qualified choices for hiring managers, who expect 5-10 qualified job seekers competing for each interview spot (so if they're trying to interview 10 people, they expect 50-100 qualified candidates, plus all the unqualified ones).

You might get some interviews in this environment, but that doesn't mean those are quality interviews (many will be to just to comply with employer requirements to interview unemployed job seekers).

You're no longer in a job environment where responsibilities, experience, skills or qualifications are enough to land you a job when you're unemployed. 2024's job market features 10+ job seekers per opening?(when you count more than unemployed candidates), and over 90% of them have an advantage over you, because they're currently working. So, when you apply for a job today, you need to be prepared to face 5-10 qualified competitors for every interview spot (that's 50-100 qualified candidates competing for 10 interview spots) ... You have to be a lot more than qualified to land a job when facing this level of competition when you're??unemployed.
