Unemployed Job Seekers: What If You Could Find Your Next Job By Year-End 2024?

If you're an unemployed job seeker, you're probably looking for ways that you can find your next job by year-end.

Or maybe you're planning to pause?your unemployment job search, thinking that the holidays are a time to back off of your search, that no one hires from mid-November through the end of the year.

What you may not realize is that the holiday time frame can be one of the best times to look for a job, depending on the strength of corporate profits.

That's because the perception of a holiday job market slowdown has nothing to do with the holidays, but has everything to do with what happens just before the holidays ... third quarter earnings announcements.

When 3rd quarter profits meet or beat forecasts, hiring managers race to have offers accepted before 12/31, so they can use it rather than risk losing headcounts to re-approval for next year's budget.

If you're only looking at new jobs published on job boards near the holidays, you're ignoring:

1. Many of the already published jobs have significantly changed, because the hiring manager's needs have changed (this can include increasing the level and/or broadening the scope and salary of the position).
2. You face much smaller competition levels, as most job seekers hit pause on their search in early November, not realizing that many hiring managers are still in decision making mode.
3. The top competitors for the job are more likely to have taken positions elsewhere by early November, giving you the chance to swoop in from behind them.
4. Hiring managers aren't as busy during the holidays, are likely in fewer meetings and in their office more, making it easier to reach them directly (if you know how).
5. Hiring managers are gathering their first thoughts on who they want for their first openings hired in 2025 - Don't you want to be the person that hiring manager is thinking about?

That's why, during years of strong 3rd quarter profitability, often recruiters are at their busiest during the holidays, right up until 12/31.
